Recreation Referee Program
About the Program

The NJYS Recreation Referee Program helps develop aspiring referees. Candidates will learn the basic mechanics related to officiating and applicable laws of the game, uniform and equipment, as well as ongoing education. The program aims to minimize barriers to help these developing referees start a pathway to officiating. Each club hosts their own Recreation Referee Program, which incorporates Respect, Positivity, Experience and Laws of the Game to reduce information overload for young aspiring referees. The Recreation Referee Program is designed to sponsor young referees to become US Soccer Grassroots Referees and join the competitive referee pool.
The Recreation Referee Program takes place during both the fall and spring season with participating clubs.
Additional Details
The Recreation Referee Referee comes at no cost to the hosting club. The program takes place at the host club during its recreation seasons. Each participant in the club’s program can receive equipment that can include whistles, watches, flags, t-shirts and yellow wristbands. Clubs will also receive marketing materials such as a-frames that will incorporate and market our Respect the Referee campaign.
The Recreation Referee Program is designed to help clubs establish a sustainable program, grow the pool of referees and provide a pathway for the youth to become a Grassroots Referee!
