OUR ASSOCIATION
New Jersey Youth Soccer is a 501(c) (3) organization affiliated with U.S. Youth Soccer and the U.S. Soccer Federation, comprised of more than 110,000 players from 5 to 19-years-old; 10,000+ coaches; and thousands of volunteers. The association governs recreational, travel soccer clubs at multiple skill levels, operates the NJ Olympic Development Programs (ODP), State Cup tournaments, coach certification programs, and TOPSoccer, a program for children with special needs.

Internship Role Description – NJYS Sports Management Intern
Title: NJYS-Sports Management Intern

Hours: Remote and Flexible
Office Location: Summer 2024 internships can be completed remotely and include the opportunity to cover on-site events.
Internship Role Summary
The NJYS Sports Management Internship will consist of both the operations and business aspects of the New Jersey Youth Soccer industry. The NJYS Sports Management Intern will assist the NJYS staff with the planning and execution of NJYS initiatives, events and activities such as the Olympic Development Program, Annual Awards Dinner and State Cups, as well as provide administrative support for phone inquiries, marketing, outreach programs (NJ ODP, Recreation, TOPSoccer, Club/Travel) and on-site event customer service support. Interns may also have the opportunity to assist with projects related to the NYNJ FIFA World Cup.
Interns will be encouraged to suggest and develop ideas independently and within a team environment, follow through on the initiatives and deal effectively with internal and external staff. Interns will be exposed to and work with desktop publishing programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint). Some events may involve heavy lifting and occasional hours on evenings and weekends. Internship hours will be adjusted based on the individual school schedule with office hours from 8:30am-4:30pm. Interns are reimbursed for mileage to/from events and assigned tasks.
Specific Duties
- Provide research, development and implementation support for NJYS events/activities.
- Assist with promotional activities and event management for special events.
- Assist with organizing events and provide administrative /operational support at NJYS programs.
- Promote the NJYS initiatives and activities through social media outlets.
- Provide support with sponsorship activation at NJYS events by coordinating with volunteers, prep calls and implementing future events.
- Assist with NYNJ FIFA World Cup related opportunities (e.g. research, planning).
- Assist set-up and break down at events including field support and coordinating needs between NJYS staff, teams, managers and coaches.
- Help organize membership benefit events.
- Attend and actively participate in staff meetings, meetings for specific events and webinars.
Important: The Summer 2024 internships may be completed fully remotely. Therefore, the responsibilities would be impacted (e.g. limited to no in-person activities).

MISSION STATEMENT: To implement the ODP training curriculum and playing philosophy. To cultivate a comprehensive and professional training environment for ODP players.
ROLE OVERVIEW:
- Serve as Head Coach for an ODP State Team of a designated birth year
- Work in conjunction with ODP Coaching Director and ODP Technical Director to help create an environment that helps ODP players reach their full potential.
- Follow and implement the training curriculum set forth by the ODP Technical Director
- Follow and implement the US Soccer playing curriculum
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Attend all Try-Outs, Sessions, Mental Toughness & Character Seminar, State Tournament, Virginia Friendlies, Mini-Camp, and Region I Camp and any unforeseen ODP events that NJYS sees as valuable to the Olympic Development Program
- Participate in all staff meetings and conference calls
- Execute topic-specific and functional training sessions designed by the technical director
- Provide a detailed report of game day performance of team to and provide feedback to the ODP Coaching Director and ODP Technical Director
- Provide a detailed report of training performance of squad players and provide feedback to the ODP Coaching Director and ODP Technical Director
- Coordinate efforts and assignments of assistant coaches and serve as a mentor for their continued professional development
- Maintain a first aid kit, data relating to medical alerts, medical release forms, and emergency contacts
- Inspect facilities and equipment to ensure safety of all participants, anchor moveable goals
- Implement directives from the state office and respond to e-mails and phone calls in a timely fashion
- Work in conjunction with the ODP Coaching Director and ODP Technical Director to select and meet deadlines for submission of state team rosters
- Submit to the ODP Coaching Director and ODP Technical Director two technical, tactical, physical, mental and character report of each squad player by December 15 and June 15.
ESSENTIAL SKILLS:
- Ability to follow the ODP training curriculum and coaching methodology
- Ability to implement the US Soccer playing curriculum
- Ability to work under the direction of the ODP Coaching Director and ODP Technical Director
- Ability to effectively lead people, settle conflicts, manage operations, and solve problems to help foster the NJYS ODP culture and playing philosophy

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
- At least 21 years old
- Proven history of professionalism (includes but is not limited to demonstrating a high standard of behavior and ethical conduct)
- Preferred a minimum of 5 years/seasons of high level playing and coaching experience
- Hold a US Soccer Federation National License (C, B, or A)
COMPENSATION: Commensurate with experience on a part-time basis.

- Inspect facilities and equipment to ensure safety of all participants, anchor moveable goals
- Implement directives from the State Office and respond to e-mails and phone calls in a timely fashion

The NJYS Olympic Development Program is seeking aspiring coaches who want to enhance their knowledge and possibly become a state team coach in the future. NJYS invites individuals who are eager to learn and assist our coaching staff as an ODP Volunteer coach. Applicants must have previous playing experience, coaching experience and hold a minimum a USSF D License.
