COACHING COURSES

The NJYS Coaching School is focused on the process of continued learning through State and US Soccer coaching certification. We aim to provide New Jersey coaches the opportunity to gain the certification needed to become effective coaches, and further develop the competencies, attitudes, knowledge, and skills relating to leadership, coaching games, coaching training sessions, leading the team, leading the player, and managing the performance environment.

NJYS State Certificate

The NJYS State Certificate is a level course, formerly known as the “F” License, that meets the requirements of the New Jersey Little League Law P.L. 1988, Chapter 87 (NJSA C.2A:62A 6) relating to immunity from liability unless willful, wanton, or grossly negligent and is the minimum requirement for an NJYS Travel Coach member pass requirements.

This certificate is generally offered in a hybrid format for a total of six-hours (3 hours virtual in a self-paced course hosted on USYS University, 3 hours in-person). The virtual modules through USYS University (Module 1, Module 2, & the Written Assignment) shall be completed prior to attending the field session.

The course examines safety considerations, emergency planning, injury care and prevention, and significant coaching responsibilities of the coach responsible for players within travel programs. An introduction is provided to foster understanding of player-centered and developmentally appropriate coaching for those engaged within the long-term player development process.

Important: The classroom portion of the courses is conducted on-demand through eTrainU and USYS University. Coach candidates are expected to complete the below online training at any point prior to the field session:

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I transfer from my current course to a different course?

Candidates may transfer to an available course so long as that course is not already in progress and has not reached capacity. To transfer courses, please contact communications@njyouthsoccer.com with your current course and desired course information.

Am I able to receive a refund for a course that I can no longer attend?

NJYS recommends that candidates transfer to the next available course that fits their schedule. If the candidate cannot attend another course, refunds may be issued if the request is made to communications@njyouthsoccer.com before the start date of each course. Once the course has started, refunds may not be available. Emergencies may be considered on a case-by-case basis.

Am I able to partially complete a course and resume at a future time and date?

Attendance is mandatory for each in-person and virtual session associated with the course that a candidate registers for. Partial attendance or completion may require a candidate to transfer courses and retake it in its entirety. To transfer courses, please contact communications@njyouthsoccer.com with your current course and desired course information.

When are US Soccer National D, C, and B License courses announced?

NJYS hosts a variety of US Soccer Licenses throughout the year. When a course is posted, NJYS communicates registration opportunities through the email database of registered NJYS coaches and on the NJYS website. We encourage potential candidates to keep a lookout for this information.

Does NJYS offer payment plans for coaching education courses?

NJYS may provide a payment plan for individuals registering for US Soccer D, C, B, or A license. 50% of the full payment will be due at the time of registration, followed by 50% of the remaining payment due one (1) week before the course start date. Due to processing costs, there is a $50 surcharge to each participant who requests a payment plan. To request a payment plan, please contact communications@njyouthsoccer.com.

When are the weekly course meetings held for the US Soccer D, C, B, or A license?

The course schedule, including virtual meetings, etc. will be made available upon the pre-course webinar date (virtual meeting a week before course start date). Weekly educator meeting times and days are determined by Coach Educator availability.

Can a candidate choose a date and/or time for their weekly course meetings associated with the US Soccer D, C, B, or A license?

Candidates may have the option to choose a Morning, Afternoon or Evening time slot on a day designated by the Coach Educator if the Coach Educator has availability. Once the course roster is set, the candidate’s educator will be informed through the course communications tab in the US Soccer Learning Center.

How can apply for the C or B License if I am a former professional player or foreign license holder?

Former professional players or foreign license holders that meet the waiver requirements for the specific course, may be eligible to register for a C Course or submit an application for a B Course. Applicants must add official proof of playing experience via letter head from the affiliated clubs, leagues, or organizations on the coach’s Learning Center profile, and submit a Foreign License and Pro Player Application to communications@njyouthsoccer.com. NJYS will evaluate the application and determine whether the applicant is eligible for a waiver.
