About NJYS State Cups
NJYS State Cups are among the largest state cups programs in the nation, with three levels of play in single elimination format! The competitions crown champions of the state, region, and nation. With the National Championship Series, Presidents Cup, and Challenge Cup tournaments, every participating team has the ability to vie for the title of “State Champion.”
National Championship Series
The National Championship Series is the country’s most prestigious national youth soccer tournament, providing winners from each state the opportunity to showcase their soccer skills against the best competition in the nation while emphasizing teamwork, discipline, and fair play. The winner of the NJYS State Cup 12U teams and above will advance to the 2024 US Youth Soccer Eastern Regional Championships.
Presidents Cup
The Presidents Cup provides challenges to play against teams of similar abilities for a national title. The cup provides a progressive, competitive experience to teams that might not otherwise get the opportunity to participate in the state, regional, and national levels of USYS. The winner of the NJYS Presidents Cup NJYS State Cup 12U teams and above will advance to the 2024 US Youth Soccer East Region Presidents Cup.
Challenge Cup
The Challenge Cup is the NJYS Cup that attracts the most teams and provides a third tier state competition. This tournament hosts travel teams in the 11U through 19U age groups. This state-only tournament creates a challenging and enjoyable event for teams that do not play in the National Championship Series or Presidents Cup.
Frequently Asked Questions
The tiered competition structure provides a competition level for each competitive team. NJYS has established guidelines for competition placement based on the team’s league flight. The National Championship Series is recommended for teams in the USYS National League, National Academy League, and EDP Premier 1 & 2. The Presidents Cup is recommended for teams in EDP conferences Premier 3, 4, and 5. The Challenge Cup is recommended for teams EDP conferences Premier 6 and lower, Metro, MCYSA, MNJYSA, and MOSA .
The 11U-14U age groups compete in the fall season (e.g., September through November). The 15U-19U age groups compete in the spring season (e.g., March through May).
Winners of the 12U-19U NJ Youth Soccer level of the National Championships Series advance to the USYS Eastern Regional Championships in late June each summer, with the chance to advance to the US Youth Soccer National Championships in mid-July. Winners of the 12U-19U NJ Youth Soccer level of the Presidents Cup advance to the USYS Eastern Presidents Cup in mid-June each summer, with the chance to advance to the US Youth Soccer National Presidents Cup in early-July. The Challenge Cup champions do not advance to a regional or national event.
Note: NJ Youth Soccer may receive wildcards for the regional events. In such case, the runner-up may be offered the opportunity to advance.
Games may be scheduled by both teams at a mutually agreeable time before the posted ‘play-by’ date listed for each round (e.g., Round of 32, Round of 16, Quarterfinals, and Semifinals). The championships matches are played on a date and time set by NJ Youth Soccer.
Games are played at a venue designated by the home teams for the preliminary round games (e.g., (e.g., Round of 32, Round of 16, Quarterfinals, and Semifinals). The championship matches are played at a neutral site coordinated by NJ Youth Soccer.
