New Jersey ODP recently competed in the Eastern New York ODP Sub Regional Event that took place in Albany. At the competition, New Jersey ODP boys and girls teams in the 2006-2011 age groups played against various other ODP State Associations.

“Eastern New York truly outdid themselves once again with another exceptional tournament,” said James Galanis, NJYS Director of Technical Operations. “The top-notch facilities and smooth event organization solidify this tournament as a must-attend for NJ ODP. Our teams shined on the field, successfully executing our tactical strategies while also allowing our players to showcase their individual talents. We owe a great deal of gratitude to our coaching staff who paved the way for a fantastic weekend for NJ ODP."

The ODP State Associations that participated in this event were Eastern New York, Western New York, Connecticut, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey and Vermont.

We love having the Sub Regional each year because we like to get the kids in the northeast part of our community more exposure, without having to travel too far,” said Jim Volpe, ENY ODP Program Director. “The states that come back each year always know what to expect; a great facility, great competition, a friendly atmosphere and a strong presence by the Regional Staff to evaluate their players.”

New Jersey ODP would like to extend its appreciation to Volpe and Eastern New York ODP, who spent countless hours to ensure the event was successful for each of the ODP state associations that attended.

The Olympic Development Program is an identification system linked to the United States Soccer Federation and US Youth Soccer. The program offers its players a pathway that could lead to representing Regional and U.S. Youth National Teams. Originally established in 1977, ODP was the first program in the country designed to identify potential youth national team players. ODP players begin initially at the local sector before progressing to the state, regional and possibly national levels. By playing with like-talented athletes, ODP offers the opportunity for players to advance in their personal development and to be scouted by college coaches.
