New Jersey ODP hosted its final tournament of the Spring 2022 ODP season on Memorial Day, with all age groups (12U to 17U) competing against teams from Eastern Pennsylvania ODP. The games provided an opportunity for the players and coaches to build upon their experiences this season and served as a precursor to the ODP East Regional Event in June.
"We are approaching the East Region Tournament, which is our final event of the year, so being able to play more games on Memorial Day allowed our coaches another chance to assess our players,” said James Galanis, NJYS Director of Technical Operations.
The coaching focus during the previous training events pertained to the Team Tactical Principles (TTP) and player actions for the Team Function of Defending, Team Function of Attacking and Team Function of Transition from Attacking to Defending.
Coaches provided individual references for players and offered them specific and helpful information to assists in their development. New Jersey ODP coaches strive to guide players and teams through each learning experience with the goal of transforming players from current to desired behaviors for each of the 6 Key Qualities of a U.S. Soccer Player.
The 6 Key Qualities include:
1. Read and understand the game and make autonomous decisions.
2.
