NJYS Young Olympians Compete in 4v4 and 9v9 Events

Austin Lloyd, NJ Youth Soccer

The NJYS Young Olympians Program recently competed in 4v4 and 9v9 game events, where each player was tasked with implementing the skills that were learned throughout their previous training sessions. An increase in program participants allowed for further enhancement of the training curriculum and made for very competitive 4v4 and 9v9 events.

“The Young Olympians grew right before our very eyes since they first stepped onto the fields,” said Homere Breton, NJYS Young Olympians Director. The season was completed with YO Liga games of 4v4 and 9v9 play that had all the bells and whistles of non-stop action, strategic play, dribbling skills, fabulous saves and goals. I was very pleased with their performance and hope that they will continue their quest for greatness, on and off the pitch."

This season’s NJYS Young Olympians Program was designed specifically for boys and girls born in 2011 and 2012. The goal of the program is to facilitate a high-level training environment while offering participants an opportunity to compete with other aspiring players from around the state.

Additionally, it allows players to become familiar with the New Jersey ODP training curriculum as well as showcase their abilities in front of the ODP coaching staff. Each participant is assessed by the ODP coaches, and the sessions are segmented where players are training with others of similar ability. The focus of Young Olympians is to improve each participant’s technical ability and tactical awareness while exposing the player and their parents to the ODP environment.

“It was an honor to work with the Young Olympians as they displayed first class learning habits and demonstrated a clear ambition to improve,” said Erika Salter, New Jersey ODP Coordinator. “It is safe to say that we have a wealth of talent coming through the system.”

New Jersey ODP would like to express its appreciation to the clubs that provided fields for the Young Olympians Program as well as all coaches and support staff that worked tirelessly to make this most recent season of Young Olympians a huge success!
