Two New Jersey ODP Teams Crowned East Region Champions
Austin Lloyd, NJ Youth Soccer
A pair of New Jersey Youth Soccer teams found great success at the 2022 US Youth Soccer ODP East Region Tournament, where the New Jersey ODP 2007 Boys and 2006 Girls were crowned regional champions for their respective age groups.
“There is a good feeling around the success of the 2007 boys and 2006 girls teams,” said James Galanis, NJYS Director of Technical Operations. “Many players in these teams have been a part of ODP for several years now, and seeing them win the East Region Tournament is very rewarding for all of us at New Jersey ODP. We have watched these players grow throughout the years, and these results are a testament to their dedication to the Olympic Development Program.”
The USYS ODP Regional Tournament took place in Wilmington, Delaware, pitting New Jersey teams against top level competition from the East Region.
"All of us at New Jersey ODP are quite happy to see these teams win the East Region Tournament because many of the players have been ODP members for a long time,” continued Galanis. “This result is due to years of hard work by ODP coaches, the support of parents and the drive of the players themselves.”
New Jersey ODP coaches have
focused on the Team Tactical Principles (TTP) over the course of this past season. The TTP programming includes the team function of defending and team function of attacking, as well as the team function of transition from attacking to defending and from defending to attacking.
"We put in a lot of effort all year to provide the players with the chance to adapt to the ODP tactical concepts,” said Lou Mignone, New Jersey ODP Coaching Director. “In the end, our teams were able to bring everything together and work incredibly effective together."
New Jersey ODP will continue with its commitment to educate players and coaches while offering unique experiences that will cater to the development of everyone involved.
“Players from both teams are a part of clubs that are committed to the growth of their players,” concluded Galanis. “We are appreciative of the chance to work with these players. Our goal at New Jersey ODP is to give our players a unique soccer experience to that of clubs. Representing your state and winning a regional championship with your state will help instill more confidence in these players and help improve their club teams. Everybody benefits from these victories.”
