NJ Youth Soccer Hosts Second Growing the Girls Game Webinar

Austin Lloyd, NJ Youth Soccer

Soccer Parenting Association Founder Skye Eddy Featured in Webinar

New Jersey Youth Soccer recently hosted its second Growing the Girls Game (G3) Webinar. The featured guest was Skye Eddy, a former youth and collegiate All-American soccer goalkeeper, state champion track athlete and professional soccer player. Joining Eddy was her daughter, Cali, who is a current Emerson College soccer player.

The Winter Webinar Series is one of the many experiences being offered by NJ Youth Soccer to support the G3 Initiative, which focuses on empowering females on and off the field at all ages and stages of their soccer career.

Eddy holds her USSF “B” License and USSF National Goalkeeper License, and she is also a coach-educator for United Soccer Coaches. She has coached at all levels of youth sports, ranging from the recreation ranks to the U.S. National Team programs through its Training Centers and Youth National Team Camps. Additionally, Eddy is the founder and owner of the Soccer Parenting Association, which is dedicated to the education of youth soccer parents. A youth sports organization board member, she is also the founder of the Girls Can Club, a non-profit mentoring initiative.

During the webinar, Eddy and her daughter discussed their soccer careers and shared tips on how they train mentally and physically. The former professional goalkeeper explained how she was able to standout on and off the field, stating that players should aspire to “show you are different, let your personality come through and show your character.”

The pair also discussed the role that coaches played in the development while stressing the importance of aligning yourself with as many quality coaches as possible. Eddy completed the webinar by talking about her biggest passion, which is ensuring that youth sports provide all families an opportunity to enjoy their time together in an empowering and enriching environment.

The discussion was moderated by accomplished journalist Renee Washington, who currently works with ESPN and Fox Sports covering the NBA, WNBA and college athletics. The former three-time All American Soccer player at LaSalle University and Lehigh University assistant coach is also an NJYS alumna. Further, she founded "Planted, not Buried" in 2020 through which she does motivational speaking, community outreach initiatives and strives to empower and inspire others.

Upcoming guests who will be featured on the G3 Winter Webinar Series include USL Super League President Amanda Vandervort and three-time Olympic Gold Medalist Heather Mitts. On a previous webinar, Gotham FC general manager Yael Averbuch West was a special guest. This free webinar series is designed for NJYS registered females on topics related to leadership and empowerment. The webinars last approximately 30 minutes and are available to the first 500 NJYS players who complete the online registration.
