Wood-Ridge SC Added As NJYS Member Club Through ITG Initiative

NJ Youth Soccer Extends Community Outreach via Innovate to Grow Grant from U.S. Soccer

New Jersey Youth Soccer has officially announced the addition of Wood-Ridge Soccer Club as a member club through its Innovate to Grow community outreach. The Innovate to Grow Fund was introduced by the U.S. Soccer Federation in pursuit of its mission to make soccer the preeminent sport in the United States. The initiative seeks to develop underserved soccer communities, with an overall focus on building the sport at the grassroots level.

“We are thrilled to see the progress that NJYS has made using the ITG grant in the past two years,” said Cindy Cone, US Soccer President. “The work that NJYS and all of our members do continues to be invaluable as we strive to grow our game for all.”

Wood-Ridge Soccer Club (WSC) was established nearly 30 years ago to serve the children of Moonachie and Woodridge, and its leadership consists of parents who are truly dedicated to the youth in the community. Due to their commitment to grassroots soccer, WSC looks to parents with soccer knowledge to provide coaching, training and mentoring to their athletes.

WSC has achieved a great deal of success but has also had its share of obstacles to overcome throughout the years. During a recent staffing downtrend, a few committed coaches maintained club operations due to their belief in the club and its philosophies. Those passionate coaches have since increased the number of active teams, formed a new board and made sure the club was compliant with today’s laws of the game.

“It has been an absolute pleasure working with Edmond Monti and his team at Wood-Ridge SC,” said David Ricca, NJYS ITG Project Consultant. “We figured out his needs and came up with a solution that can better help his club. I am so excited to see what the future holds for WSC, and they have our full support.”

As a member of NJ Youth Soccer, WSC is looking forward to a mutually beneficial partnership. With the help of NJ Youth Soccer, WSC also hopes to play a role in the development of the game in the state. Based on their interactions with NJYS members to date, WSC is optimistic for what the future holds.

“I will say that in the process of joining NJYS, I received overwhelming support from numerous people, including David Ricca, Rick Meana, Lindsey Nappi and Lori Hynes,” said Edmond Monti, Wood-Ridge Soccer Club President and Administrator. “This support exemplifies how a host organization should operate, and I am very grateful for their help.”

As the club moves forward, WSC looks forward to continuing its growth with a group of motivated people who embrace the grassroots philosophy and know that the children must always come first.
