The New Jersey Olympic Development Program kicked off its 2021-2022 season with an “Intro Night” featuring an appearance by former ODP standout Yael Averbuch West. The event detailed the New Jersey ODP structure, expectations and coaching staff for the players and families.
“It is always good to outline the goals and expectations of the Olympic Development Program,” said James Galanis, NJYS Director of Technical Operations. “The families appreciate the insight we provide through our presentation and get to see how much work is involved in running New Jersey ODP.”
Guest speaker Yael Averbuch West discussed her experiences in New Jersey ODP and its importance in preparing players for the next level. Averbuch West is currently the Interim General Manager and Head of Soccer Operations for Gotham FC of the National Women’s Soccer League.
“As a young player, I had the dream of being a professional soccer player. For me, ODP was the avenue to start to understand how to piece this dream together,” Averbuch West reflected. “I cannot say enough about how special it is to be a part of New Jersey ODP in particular. I have played all over the world, and New Jersey is really special when it comes to soccer.”
New Jersey ODP teams began training sessions in preparation for their first tournament on Columbus Day. The season runs through Memorial Day, with the East Region ODP Tournament taking place shortly thereafter in June.
