3 NJYS Teams Crowned Champions at US Youth Soccer Eastern Regional Championships

HAMMONTON, New Jersey (July 1, 2021) – The 2021 US Youth Soccer Eastern Regional Championships concluded on Thursday, with two NJYS teams claiming a championship title. One NJ team claimed victory on Wednesday.

The victories secure the 13U-19/20U teams with a spot in the 2021 US Youth Soccer National Championships, where champions for each of the four US Youth Soccer regions and the National League Playoffs will compete for the National Championship title from July 20-25 in Bradenton-Sarasota, Florida.

Congratulations to the NJYS 2021 US Youth Soccer Eastern Regional Champions and Finalist:

 12UG: Matchfit Academy Shore (Champion)

Matchfit Shore Academy 12UG fought through an overtime thriller to secure the championship title at the 2021 US Youth Soccer Eastern Regional Championships. A late goal off a corner kick in the final seconds of regulation play from Callie Smith of Matchfit tied the game 1-1. During the overtime periods, Smith netted a second goal from a corner kick to secure the title. “I’m really proud of my team,” exclaimed Callie Smith. “They played amazing, and we worked together to win.”

14UG: Wayne SC Dynamite Academy (Champion)

A tough battle ensued in the 14UG Final, with Wayne SC Dynamite Academy claiming victory in a 4-2 score line over New York Surf. “We really pushed hard through the spring and fall,” said Tommi Valente of WSC DA. “I’m really thankful for the opportunity to get to the Eastern Regional Championships.”

Wayne SC’s Lauren Villasin and Lindsay Fouche also noted that their victory was credited to the confidence, determination, and hard work the team showed throughout the event.

15UG: Real Jersey FC (Champion)

With an 8-1 finish, Real Jersey FC 15UG punched their ticket to the US Youth Soccer National Championships. “We finished our chances and opportunities,” said RJFC player Regan O’Shaughnessy, “and everyone did what they were asked to do.” Morgan Kotch of RJFC also told NJYS that, “The team is excited for a second time back to the National Championships.”

Real Jersey FC Club President, Rusty Aaronson added that the 15UG side had one goal when returning to play earlier this year. “We were going to get back to nationals; and it’s even better that the pathway is through our backyard. To win in New Jersey and to play in New Jersey is amazing.”

18UB: TSF Academy (Finalist)

The “Road to Florida” came to an end for the TSF Academy 18UB, falling to 3-0 result. The TSF battled through the Eastern Regional Championships, advancing through tiebreakers in group play, and dominating in the semifinals earlier this week.

“It’s been incredible to be here,” said Matthew Sequeria, player of the TSF side. “This placement shows the progress that we’ve made over the past few years, and to perform this well at a regional tournament is awesome.”

Additionally, two NJ teams will compete in the National Championships later this month, qualifying through the National League Playoffs.
