PRELIMINARY GAMES CONTINUE FOR NJ TEAMS AT US YOUTH SOCCER EASTERN REGIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS

HAMMONTON, New Jersey (June 26, 2021) - The second day of preliminary matches concluded for the 40 NJ teams competing in the US Youth Soccer Eastern Regional Championships at the Tuckahoe Turf Farms in Hammonton, New Jersey. With the teams having completed their second of three group stage games, the stage is set for crucial games on Sunday, as teams play their final group stage games to solidify their fate in the group standings.

Let’s look at highlights from Day 2 of the US Youth Soccer Eastern Regional Championships:

15U Boys: The standings grew clearer on Saturday, as Real Jersey FC stepped toward a spot in the quarterfinals with a win against Eagle FC Black, where RJFC player Dominic Zulli netted four goals in the 5-1 result. “It’s a great tournament,” said Zulli. “We’re playing good so far! My team and I are looking forward to the finals.”

18U Girls: Millville Pride secured a win over New York Surf Academy on their first day of group play, where the 4-1 score line saw a hattrick from Millville player Olivia Giordano. “It’s a great opportunity to show off our skills,” noted Giordano. “The competition is better than we have faced. As a team, we played well and are connecting with good passes.” Millville Pride will fight for a win tomorrow to secure their spot in the single elimination rounds.

18U Boys: Peninsula Premier Eagles brought the intensity in their opening match against Capital Area SA. Conceding two early goals, Peninsula fought back for a 3-2 win. Marco Mastriani, a player of the Peninsula side, shared his excitement ahead of the event. “Being here shows that our hard work is paying off,” said Mastriani, “We realize that we need to be focused mentally and physically this weekend. We’re here to outwork the other teams.” Peninsula will continue group play on Sunday.

 19/20U Boys: Medford Strikers Academy won 3-1 in their second group play match, after a thrilling run of events from opponent DUSC Blue. Holding a one goal lead for most of the match, Medford notched a second goal in hopes of securing a win. DUSC answered shortly thereafter, with a bicycle kick finish narrowing the score to 2-1. In short order, Medford netted a third and final goal to secure the win.


While some teams have already secured their spot in the single elimination rounds, the destiny of most will be decided tomorrow.

The US Youth Soccer Eastern Regional Championships challenges all to play against teams of similar skill level for a national bid. Teams that earned their way to the US Youth Soccer Regional Championships are not only competing for a regional title, but a chance to move on to the country’s most prestigious national youth soccer tournament, US Youth Soccer National Championships which are set for July 20-25 in Bradenton-Sarasota Florida. The country’s most prestigious national youth soccer tournament, US Youth Soccer National Championships cap a yearlong series of competitions for boys’ and girls’ teams in multiple age brackets as teams earn their way from the top teams in their state to the regional championship tournaments.
