Suburban Youth Soccer League Competed this Fall with Zero Reported Cases of Transmission

Considering all of the challenges that have been presented by COVID-19, the Suburban Youth Soccer League of New Jersey (SYSL NJ) deserves to be credited for the successful completion of their Fall 2020 season.

SYSL NJ was founded in 2017 to provide a soccer environment for member clubs and organizations and their constituents to develop, promote, and serve the NJ soccer interests of their youth members through amateur competition and educational programs. However, even during this unprecedented time, the league did not abandon their “Kids Remember Moments, Not Scores” mentality.

“We had a few teams and players quarantine for safety precautions, but we are proud to report that there were no reported cases of COVID outbreaks as a result of playing soccer,” said John Dilts, a resident of Cranford, as well as Commissioner and Co-Founder of SYSL NJ. “The reason for our success was due to SYSL’s preseason planning and development and strict adherence to a comprehensive protocol that was created in conjunction with all 17 clubs/towns."

SYSL NJ kicked-off their action during the weekend of September 19th and 20th, which ultimately concluded with the SYSL Cup Finals on November 21st and 22nd. During SYSL’s 10 weeks of action, there were 2,200 kids on 142 teams who participated in a total of 580 games this fall season. And, as mentioned, there were ZERO reported cases of transmission through any of the games played. Please visit the SYSL website for a summary of the final standings.

“Considering the COVID crisis, school shut-downs, and an overall crazy year, SYSL NJ is proud to have given these kids the opportunity to play,” explained Dilts.

After a much-needed rest for all town representatives, coaches, parents, and players, SYSL NJ will be returning in 2021 for their Spring season, so please check out their website (linked above) for the most up-to-date information.
