NJYS Legends Series Ep. 11: Gregg Berhalter

New Jersey Youth Soccer has launched an NJYS Legends Video Series, where NJYS Director of Technical Operations James Galanis hosts online conversations with current and former professional players from the State of New Jersey. The conversations feature various topics that are relative to each guest, from sharing their best at-home training methods to reflecting back upon playing in New Jersey ODP and other NJYS programming.

In this conversation, Galanis speaks with Gregg Berhalter, the current head coach of the U.S. Men's National Team. After playing his high school soccer at Saint Benedict's Preparatory School, Berhalter attended college at the University of North Carolina before embarking upon a nearly 20-year professional career. He eventually played his final three seasons stateside with the LA Galaxy of Major League Soccer. On the international level, the New Jersey native capped 44 times as a defender for the U.S. Men's National Team.

After retiring as a player, Berhalter began his coaching career as an assistant with the LA Galaxy. Later that year, he took over Swedish club Hammarby IF, becoming the first American to ever manage a professional European club. He then became the head coach of the Columbus Crew of Major League Soccer in 2013, remaining there until he was hired as the U.S. Men's National Team head coach in 2018.
