NJ Youth Soccer Releases College Recruitment Webinar

New Jersey ODP Technical Director James Galanis Hosts Webinar with Dr. Krissy Turner and Bob Turner

While the soccer community continues to practice social distancing, New Jersey Youth Soccer has produced a college recruitment webinar to assist high school athletes who aspire to play at the next level. During the online discussion, New Jersey ODP Technical Director James Galanis speaks about the college recruitment process with Dr. Krissy Turner, head women's soccer coach at Monmouth University, and Bob Turner, assistant women's soccer coach at The College of New Jersey (TCNJ).

"The goal of this discussion was to provide details about the college recruitment process for aspiring players looking to play collegiate soccer," said Galanis. "Bob and Krissy gave valuable insight that will provide some real clarity on the college recruitment process. Playing college soccer requires a big level of commitment. I love how they give us details on the realities of being a collegiate athlete."

A variety of different elements within the college recruitment process are addressed during the webinar. Some of the topics include how to get recruited, the importance of grades and what to expect when a student-athlete arrives on campus. Galanis leads the conversation in a panel-type setting, with both coaches providing in-depth responses to his questions. The webinar provides incredible insight for aspiring high school athletes and their parents regarding the college recruitment experience.

A 2018 NJ Youth Soccer Hall of Fame inductee, Dr. Krissy Turner began her college playing career at the University of Rhode Island before transferring to TCNJ, where she received All-America accolades. She then became an assistant coach at TCNJ, helping the Lions post a trio of 20-win seasons and back-to-back NCAA Division III National Championships in 1993 and 1994. She then spent three years at Lafayette College before taking over as the head coach at Monmouth University.

Over the past 22 years, Turner has directed Monmouth to 262 wins, seven conference championships, nine regular-season championships and seven NCAA Tournament appearances. Further, she has been an eight-time Conference Coach of the Year. Players under her tutelage have seen All-Conference honors on 146 occasions, and 28 of those athletes received All-Region accolades. An USSF "A" Licensed coach, Turner has proven to be an instrumental part of the NJYS Olympic Development Program (ODP) for nearly two decades. During her time with New Jersey ODP, she led teams to eight ODP Regional Championships and three ODP National Championships. Turner also serves as a staff member for US Soccer's National Training Centers Program, where she identifies players for the U.S. Youth National Team.

Bob Turner, a Pennington, N.J. resident and NJ Youth Soccer Hall of Fame inductee, has a deeply rooted influence within the New Jersey soccer community. At the University of Miami, he was a two-sport athlete and earned his degree in Business Administration. After finishing his college studies, Turner was pivotal in the emergence of the women's soccer program at TCNJ, where he has served as an assistant coach for the past 30 years. During his tenure at TCNJ, he has helped the team to three national titles, 12 Final Four appearances and 536 overall wins. On the youth landscape, Turner has worked with the New Jersey ODP Girls Program over the past 20 years while also embracing the role of Girls ODP Administrator.
