The annual NJYS Coaches Workshop and Vendor Expo will convene on January 7, 2012, at the spacious NJ Convention and Exposition Center in Edison, NJ. This has been the site of several highly successful expositions attracting over 2500 people every year and hundreds of vendors!
This year’s topics and presentations reflect our ongoing mission of helping you develop and implement practical player-centered learning environments. By this we mean the player should be the center of all your actions and decisions, regardless of the ability of your player. The quality of the leadership, supervision and programming in youth soccer is much more important than the quantity. The most important of all our responsibilities as coaches, administrators, referees and parents is to provide every child who participates in youth soccer a safe and enjoyable experience and the opportunity to reach their full soccer potential; how best to do that is where education comes into play—for the player as well as their support system. As always we will feature the top youth, college and professional soccer minds from around the local area and country sharing the latest ideas, methods and concepts in the game and administration.

Using GotSoccer
Presenter: Bill CameronThe Club DOC: Player Development over Winning
Presenter: : Louis Mignone, Director of Coaching West Orange United FC; Girls Head Varsity Soccer Coach at West Orange High SchoolThis presentation will examine the difficult journey a club DOC faces while establishing a culture of youth player development, replacing the traditional focus upon winning matches as the ultimate measurement of the program’s accomplishment and worth; this process is not only a gradual one, but it is vulnerable to several impediments along the way. Conflicts will be discussed pertaining to bringing the club’s existing coaches, many of whom are “set in their ways”, into compliance with the club’s new coaching methodology, small-sided game teaching models, and age-appropriate learning objectives clearly described within the curriculum. Formal and informal parent meetings will be evaluated through which a DOC may paint a more lucid picture of how these youth players will gain irreplaceable technical enrichment and confidence within this system that encourages enjoyment, exploration, risk-taking, and decision-making without fear of any consequences. Highlighted as the principal theme, will be the continual provision of coaching education at varied levels of complexity to an assortment of audiences within a wide range of settings and through various means of delivery
