The 7v7 Build Out Line Rule

To teach young players playing in the 7v7 small-sided game format the value of starting an attack from a goalkeeper's save or a goal kick by retaining possession as the ball is played on the ground up the field, US Soccer instituted the Build Out Line rule. On August 15, the rule was announced as part of a series of Player Development Initiatives by US Soccer and on August 1, 2017, following a two-year implementation window during which NJYS member Leagues and Clubs experimented with the rule, it became a mandate. We have heard from many of you that clarification and consistency is needed. As such, NJYS has dedicated an entire page on our website for coaches, referees and parents to become more familiar with this very important rule modification. Read more.

Importance of Goal Safety

As preparations continue for the spring season, we remind coaches about the importance of goal safety. In recent seasons, we have received multiple claims resulting directly from a goal falling on a child. All reported incidents occurred during training sessions. While we know there is inherent risk in competing in soccer, injury from an unsecured goal is very much avoidable. As this fall season nears its conclusion, please take this opportunity to reemphasize education on goal safety. Read more.

NJYS Play of the Month

NJ Youth Soccer is once again teaming-up with the New York Red Bulls and Sky Blue FC to celebrate the best on-field moments in the region for our "Play of the Month" initiative. This is an opportunity for NJ Youth Soccer players and teams to share their achievements, fun on the field and win a monthly prize from the New York Red Bulls or Sky Blue FC. This could be an individual goal, save, string of passes or any soccer activity that celebrates success and achievement on the field. Just tag @NJYouthSoccer on social media when you post a video, and make sure to use #NJYSplayofthemonth.
