The New NJYS State “E” License/Certificate
The Cornerstone Course

  • This is a 13 hour formal course designed for all coaches having recently completed the NJYS “F” License who are looking to learn more,
    no waiting period required between having taken the NJYS "F" License and the NJYS State "E" License
  • The philosophy and methodology can be easily adapted for all levels of coaching such as those competing in small sided competition that
    will be transitioning to the 11v11 adult format competition, or those coaches who are currently coaching adolescents
  • 3 hour classroom discussion on a variety of topics including Long Term Athlete Development, Learning Theory, Guided Questions and
    Discovery Coaching Methodology, Principles of Play
  • 9 hours of on-field practical demonstrations presenting ideas for the technical, tactical, psychological and physical elements of soccer forms
    ranging from 1v1 and 11v11 including goalkeeper distribution and angle play
  • Prerequisites: Copy of NJYS “F” License and CDC on-line Youth Sports Concussion Training Certificate
  • Pre-course reading and writing assignments, an hour at most
  • 7 minute demonstration of coaching abilities at the end
  • Coaches completing the course will be sent the State “E” License Certificate of Attendance and a US Youth Soccer’s Coaching DVD
  • Candidates encouraged but not required to physically participate to be eligible to receive the Certificate.
    There are no formal assessment/tests for this course
  • Note: The NJYS State “E” License/Certificate is the highest “State” License, those coaches wishing to begin the
    National Coaching Licenses Track are required to begin with the National “E” License Course which is also offered by
    NJYS Coaching Schools
  • Cost per Candidate: $50.00
  • Candidate must be at least 16 years old


  • Schedule: can be adapted to accommodate needs (Friday, 6:30pm-9:30pm) and one weekend day (Saturday or Sunday, 8am-5pm)
  • Needs: Class/Meeting room and 1 full size regulation field lined and with goals/nets, Emergency Action Plan including club
    representative contacts, whenever possible a team of U12 to U15 Players for candidate practice at end for 2 hours
  • Candidates: 20 is the minimum - 26 is the maximum number to run the course for one instructor.
