Each year, New Jersey Youth Soccer inducts individuals who have made an outstanding individual contribution to our youth and sport. Since 1989, fifty two people have been inducted into the Hall of Fame. These include those who have served as administrators and coaches. In 2002, NJYS added the category of players who participated in NJYS programs as a youth player and who have gone on to participate on a US National Team.
Bob McNulty was the first New Jersey Youth Soccer Director of the Coaching Schools. Bob organized a staff and began conducting F License courses through out New Jersey. Bob's goal was to make every coach the best coach that person could be. His philosophy was that coaching is more than just being on the sidelines during game or organizing practices. It meant a devotion to the players to help them in their soccer careers and the other activates. Bob's avid passion for coaching influenced many coaches during Bob's tenure at the helm of the NJYS Coaching Schools.
Each year, NJYS recognizes an individual who has demonstrated his or her commitment to player development, sportsmanship of the game to both players and parents, who continues to develop as a coach, and who provides support to his or her soccer community.
In 2004, New Jersey Youth Soccer began to separately recognize a coach who had participated in the recreation programs in New Jersey. As with the Bob McNulty Coach of the Year, this would be an individual who has demonstrated his or her commitment to player development, sportsmanship of the game to both players and parents, who continues to develop as a coach, and who provides support to his or her soccer community.
The New Jersey Youth Soccer Volunteer of the Year Award is given to an individual who makes a special effort as a volunteer to support NJYS programs.
Current Recipient
Paul Hausser ScholarshipThe Paul Hausser Scholarship Fund was established by the family of Paul Hausser in memory of Paul Hausser, a dedicated educator at New Jersey Institute of Technology, a former coach at NJIT, a volunteer with the MetroStars and an avid supporter of soccer among our youth. When the Hausser family selected NJYS for a contribution, NJYS turned that generous contribution into an annual scholarship in honor of Paul.
As part of the Paul Hausser Memorial Scholarship Fund, New Jersey Youth Soccer awards scholarships to deserving high school seniors who intend to go to college and pursue a career in education.
Jeanine Willis Scholarship
The Jeanine Willis Scholarship Fund was established by New Jersey Youth Soccer to remember the numerous contributions of Jeanine Willis, the first Executive Director of New Jersey Youth Soccer to the sport of soccer in New Jersey and to the many youth players who have participated over the years. Each year, NJYS will award scholarships to deserving high school seniors who are going on to college or an accreditted technical school and who have participated in the New Jersey Youth Soccer State Cup Program.
Each year, NJYS recognizes those players and teams that have accomplished achievements in Regional and National ODP and National Championship programs.
National Team Players: A NJYS/US Soccer Youth National Team ODP Player is an NJYS ODP player who was been called in to a US National Team Training Camp (Youth or Senior) AND was named to the game roster with the possibility of playing wearing the uniform colors of the United States of America for a competition between August 1, 2005 and October 21, 2006. These rosters appear on the US Soccer website: www.ussoccer.com. Note: This list does not include players who were called into National Pool Camps run by US Soccer.
Regional ODP Players: A NJYS/US Youth Soccer Region 1 ODP Player is a player who ATTENDED the US Youth Soccer Region I Camp and was subsequently NAMED to a Region 1 Player Pool Roster. This list of players is available the Region 1 web site. In addition, any player who is named to a US Youth Soccer Region I roster for the Thanksgiving Inter-Regionals (as published on the Region I website) is eligible. Note: This list does not include players who the Region may have placed on "Injured Reserve" or selected as "Alternates"
NJYS ODP Teams: Teams that have competed in the Region I ODP Tournament and captured the tournament championship.
Region I National Championship: Teams that won both the NJYS and Region I US Youth Soccer National Championship.
